Reading Codes in a VW 93 Passat

Is there a way I can easily read the codes in this car.....and where I can plug in if any....
Please don't say Dealer, my local dealers are worthless...
Spend is all they are known for....is there anything I can purchase that I can use and where
93 passat glx vr6 B3

Well I have a 95 passat and next to the right side of the steering wheel, about 2 inches under your instrument cluster glass there is a little plastic piece with a check engine sign on it, pop this piece of with your fingers and it will reveal a 12 pin connector that you can plug your code reader into. I'm not sure if the 93's are different but hope this helps.

the thing to plug in the computer is next to the steering weel on the right side above the ignition usually so check there
