Exclamation Quick question !

hey sorry if i posted this in the wrong forum, its street racing related so i figured this is where i should post.

Im currently looking into buying a civic hatchback shell and wanna put a good engine in thats good for turbo and can run a high amount of boost without blowing the engine. Alot of people have been telling me to go with a integra LS non-vtec engine, i was jus wondering does anyone know a better engine or a higher hp engine thats good with turbo?...the LS seems a little low in hp. Some opinions/advice would really be awesome and very much appreciated.

- Thanks in advance.

Re: Quick question !

For this type of question your best bet would be the Honda Civic technical/modification section here on AF.

Re: Quick question !

If you want high boost and reliability, you're going to have to build the engine. In that case your best bet (best bang for buck) would be the B18C1 fron the Integra GS-R.

Re: Quick question !

VTEC + turbo = crazy power.

K20's are monsters but that's going to cost you about double a GSR for the whole swap.

Re: Quick question !

So if i get a B18C1 i should have no problem's turboing it? Do B18C1's run turbo good?? because currently i have a H22A1 but i havent turbo'd it because people are telling me they have high compression and will blow very easily.

Re: Quick question !

If you already have an engine then don't buy a new one, build on the H22a1. Get it sleeved, low compression pistons, and rods. You'll be able to do it all for well under the price of a B18C swap.

Re: Quick question !

well, i have the h22a1 inside a 92 prelude that was my old project car and is now almost done. Im gonna be selling it and with the money i was gonna make this hatch my new project because i've always wanted a turbo'd hatch. With that said, i think im going to go with the B18C1..i've looked up many different places for prices and the best HP for price seems to be the B18C1. I just need to know.. is there anything i will need to modify or upgrade or anything for it to run turbo good? Does it run turbo good??? some info on turbo inside a B18C1 would be very helpful. Thanks alot for your help!!

Re: Quick question !

does a B18C1 fit in a CRX engine bay? if you could find a way to fit a turbo'd b1 into such a light car that thing would be a monster (and a sleeper).

Re: Quick question !

It may be fast, but you can't outrun ugly

I wouldn't put the H22 out of the picture. A guy around here fit one in a early 90's civic hatch and can get ~650hp at the crank at some crazy ammount of boost like 32psi.

Re: Quick question !

well let me see if i can help you.. about the vtec +turbo.. you can def turbo the B18C1 and it can run good, just depends on the build. you have to be carfull with the vtec because you a valve over lap. aka when the intake valves and exhaust valves are open at the same time. the turbo will suck the air right through the chamber. with a good set of vtec tubo cams you can minimize the valve over lap. The best thing to do in my opionion is to invest in a B18B (LS) or the B20 (CRV or old Prelude motor)

you can rev high with both of these non-vtec motors but you will have to build them really stong, and the better you build them the higher rpm you can can reach and the higher boost you can run. the LS is a really good motor for turbo. i built a fully built LS with B20 head. and i can list how i built the engine

B18B W/ B20 Head

crower stroker kit W/ lightweight crank
i bought the strongest rods i could find to handle the rpm and boost, because like you i love high rpms and boost
CP pistons 8.5:1
darton sleeves
you can bore a b series out to a 87mm max. with turbo i would not go over 84.5mm-85mm
aggresive port/polish
full valve train
good set of turbo cams like crower
angle valve job
over sized valves .5mm over int/ 1mm over exhaust
venom intake manifold W/68mm-70mm Tb
turbonetics t4 turbo kit W/ upgraded intercooler
a good boost controler
LS tranny. it has longer gears good for turbo
LSD
boost controler
def will need to be tuned
and all the other goodies that you want to add.

you could have a 2.1L turbo
power should range 450+

if you have any ?'s just holla but thats they setup i would go with. i dont like vtec with a turbo. if you really want vtec go with a suppercharger. works much better with vtec
