DeLorian VS Taurus SHO

Hey all,

I said this as a joke earlier in a post-reply, and it got me thinking.
What would come out on top in a straight line drag.......say a 1/4
to a 1/2 mile line?

Just a thought...........hehe!

1/4 Mile: est 13.4 seconds (hoping!)

Well, DeLoreans only have 130 bhp, so it'd be a bit one-sided...

Hmm... It depends on what year SHO since they varied so greatly from 89 to 95. The DMC was basically the same all 3 years.

Both cars have V6 with 5-speed.
Similar wieght distributions, SHO is 400 pounds heavier.
The SHO has 220 horsepower (almost 100 more than the DMC).
The SHO has DOHC 24 valve(from the info I got), whereas the DMC has one can per bank and 12 less valves.
The SHO is about 12 years newer... and a car full of newer parts usually has an advantage (no bearings randomly giving out).
The SHO has a rev limiter and holds the RPMS at 7300 (whereas the DMC can be redlined if not careful).

So, it depends... If it was my DMC versus an SHO in identical condition, then I'd take him

I've heard of some Deloreans with a turbo setup (which mine doesn't have) that makes them damn quick but the SHO just has to much power stock to stock for the DMC.

There is a twin turbo setup available for Deloreans, but it costs about $5,000 (I've heard it can cost upwards of $8,000). I also heard that setup gets you nearly 300hp though. So 300hp +RWD +Rear Engine +Lotus Chassis = One hell of a car

The Legend Twin Turbo setup is awesome... the others are known to blow out your piston rings after 5K miles

HAHA Terminal Velocity..........reminds me of an old friend.

Interesting views on here, and i learned a bunch. I just have a question though. I understand that you can take your DMC to the production plant and they do the works for you. Bore out the engine, finely tune the tranny and add the twin blowers.

Is that what was meant by the Legend Twin Turbos? If so, what kind
of numbers are looking at with this, ie 0-60, 1/4 mile?

What about the Northstar? You'd have to use the Caddy auto, but it's quite a nice motor... all aluminum, so it doesn't weigh much.

The Delorean has the same layout as a Fiero, right? Transverse 2800?

Legend Industries (what an ironic name since they are more of a legend now than a company) made a few twin turbo D's that were used for testing... the DMC was supposed to be offered in a twin turbo version. But then, sadly, the company went out of business.

You can't take your car to the factory, but you can go to http://www.delorean.com/ to get all this stuff done.

Not sure on the performance increases of the twin turbo...

Ha, not if you're paying those bandits to do it!

OTOH, getting a grey market Northstar and doing it yourself... I'm sure TV and Redneck would be willing to help...

Yeah, but the Chevy v8s are way too common to put in a delorean... also, the northstar is a better swap for a Delorean or a Fiero...

I always thought the delorean was a transversely mounted car...

I would have to vote against the DeLorean UNLESS it's the one from Back To The Future.

Nothing could beat that machince. It could travel through time ahead to the end of the race. LOL.
