Singer and songwriter Denny Doherty of the Mamas & Papas passed away after a brief illness. he was 66. Here is a link to the story:

They were one of my favorite bands from the '60s. He was the third member of the group to die, with Mama Cass Elliot being the first in 1974. John Philips passed away in 2001. The only surviving member is actress Michelle Philips (Knots Landing), mother of Mackenzie Philips (One Day At A Time).
Denny also hosted a children's show "Theodore Tugboat" (on PBS) and did all the voices. My kids liked to watch that show a few years back.
