Problems in '95 PA after installation of CD player

My daughter recently bought a '95 Park Avenue in excellent condition from a local automotive shop. She asked if her CD player could be taken out of her old car and installed in the PA. The owner said no problem, and he would do the job. After she picked up the car with the CD player installed, she discovered she no longer had power locks, no keyless entry, no power trunk opener, no interior lights upon opening the doors, and the antenna is stuck in the up position and will no longer go down when the car shuts off. The mechanic is stumped and has had the car back 3 times trying to figure this out. Before he installed the CD player, he had to buy a different power cord so the player would be connected right. Could this be the culprit? But after he installed the CD player, all of the things mentioned above that were working perfectly, now don't work at all. Anybody have any suggestions?

It sounds like the CD player and or wiring harness were not compatible with the original wiring. Do you know the name brand and model number of the CD player? The pic below is a pin-out of the 32 pin connector used in 1995. Is this what you have?

Re: Problems in '95 PA after installation of CD player

INTERESTING..

I own two 94' Buicks,, a Park Avenue and a LeSabre.

They both have recently had failures of their AM/FM cassette radios.
Its almost like they had a timer on them.

One doesnt have FM which we used to use with a IPOD FM transmitter.

The Park has a CD Stack player in the trunk and it uses FM modulated signal to the antenna..
Its problem is both FM and AM seem to be in a scan mode. I hear the stations zoom by briefly but the frequency is fixed on the display.

I am thinking of just a aftermarket replacement and would like recommendations since newer decks dont fit in the space. Perhaps I will start a new thread..

Thanks.

Re: Problems in '95 PA after installation of CD player

HELP!!!

In discussion of that chart.. the right group is similar but not right for the Park I have...
PIN 1 is a upper LH front door speaker return (-) wire on mine
Labeled on your diagram.. What the heck is E & C data? Mine has that too on pin 7
and
PIN 4 RH upper RH front door speaker out (+)..
Labeled on your diagram VFPWM mine is pin 3...
What the heck is that? Variable Frequency Pulse Width Modulated.. for lighting...

I looked at this problem in the Service Manual and suppose somebody blew a fuse..
..that darn factory radio does some wierd stuff.

What is Data Link Controller?? ::EDIT:: possibly the steering wheel contol

Apparently the purple/white line out of the old radio is a pulse width signal that contols the dimmer assembly and climate control lights.

Quoting the manual..where it points to this wire. pg 802
"Pulse width modulated illumination signal from radio. Controls VF display illumination of heater and a/c sontrol assembly and passenger climate control assemably with head/park lamp switch at head or park, Voltage varies as dimmer control is rotated" (mine slides)

The other wire, wire 7, (dark green) is called a E & C Data line.. it goes out to the dual climate control assembly then series connects to the passenger climate control assembly and then series to the HVAC Programmer.. then out to a DATA Link connector to the DLC (Data link controller)???..

I noted a remote dimmer module indicated on/near the steering collumn. Pg 788

I got no clue what these are for could someone explain..
E & C?

or what the VF is?
. (I can only assume variable frequency) Pulse width.
::EDIT:: I read something about the GM uses the radio for a source pulse and a way of doing OBDI functions.

Re: Problems in '95 PA after installation of CD player

Here's something to consider....

Is the wiring different between the base-model sound system and the Concert II system???

Thanks, (I'd like to know before doing this install myself.)

Re: Problems in '95 PA after installation of CD player

I think your talking BOSE system or not..

anyway the saga continues..

I think I just learned the source Variable Pulse Width signal OBDII timing, VPW comes originally from the original factory radio.

...It signal source for the diagnostics OBD system.. Im wondering if you take out or replace the radio it the car basically go back to brainless running.
Or manufactures of aftermarket players take this into consideration.

Perhaps I'm wrong but still studying..

No, it's not the Bose system... it's before the Bose system.

The label on the speaker housing says "Concert Series II"... It's above the base-speakers.

Just wondering if the radio hookups or wiring is different from the base speakers.

Re: Problems in '95 PA after installation of CD player

Checking the 95' book looks like theres only a one wire choice.. so
a schematic should be good across the stereo systems..

Reminder, a RADIO CD change to a aftermarket .. stopps your steering wheel controls from working anymore.. and possibly a code on the PCM to store. Your lights to your AC / radio controls on the steering wheel will no longer light.

Good Luck
