P0300 and P0147 Codes with rough running

Hello,

This is regarding a 1999 Chev. Camaro V-6 3800 motor. The car has 98K miles on it. It is an automatic with air conditioning. For about a month my girlfriends car has been giving a check engine light constant. Then last week she was driving at night and the car stalled on her. She freeked out, but after about 20 minutes started the car again and drove it home. The check engine light is now blinking and the car is missing or running rough at low idol, but improves somewhat when the RPM's reach 2000. From a starting stop the car shutters as it shifts indicating to me the engine is still missing even at the higher RPM's, but on the highway it is very hard to feel the miss.

I took the car to a parts store and had it coded with the two P0300 codes and one P0147 code. The plugs and wires were changed on the car within the last 6 to 8 months. I have been doing quite a bit of reading on this problem and realize I have several areas to focus on.

My question is this, could the O2 sensor (P0147) being causing the problem or can I plan on deeper problems even after I replace the O2 sensor? I have checked three of the plug wires at the spark plug and do not feel any damage to them. I have to get the car in the air to check the remaining ones which I plan to do tomorrow.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I think your O2 code is a cause and effect ordeal. As your p0300 code outlines, the PCM is monitoring multiple cylinder misfires so it's something accross the board to more than one cylinder, be it in the ignition system (crank position/reference signal) or coil(s) or fuel, pump or injectors.

Thank you so much for the response...I talked with a buddy of mine yesterday afternoon and he told me how to test the coil...he also thought the O2 was due to the P0300.

I am going to start with the coils and test them. They are considerably cheaper than the O2 sensor anyway.

Absolutely they're cheaper, and easier to check.

There are other possibilities as well, but check the ign system out, to either find or eliminate it as the source.
