Can a GM truck sound good?

I've never heard a chevy/GM truck before that sounded good.

Glasspacks have that trailer park snap/crackle/pop. Kelloggs rice crispies. Turbo mufflers rust out 2 days after you put them on. What's a good muffler choice for a GM truck?

My '85 GMC beater is stone silent and I don't like that. I don't want it wicked loud, and I don't want it to sound poppy like stupid glasspacks. I like how my green Dodge sounds, but I know this truck would never sound like it anyway.

What do you guys run for exhaust? I wouldn't mind hearing from the guys with dual mufflers. I'm not gonna do some kind of Y-pipe into a single in dual out muffler with an X-pipe and sideswept tips or some bullshit. I just want a dual muffler system, one pipe from each head, one muffler for each pipe.

I always liked this enlightenment;

I believe my grandfather said it first and I know he was never too 'enlightened' with Chrysler's.

I have a 1978 GMC that had a 350 ci i put a duel pipe no y and x pipes I used two flowmaster delta flow fortty series it sound nice. I liked the sound more with the way I had it first then when I put the headers. Go to flowmaster.com you can hear the sound that each muffler dose I like the fifty series

You want loud? Get a hacksaw. In a hurry? How about a Sawzall?

FM40-Series are reasonably mellow at low throttle, but can get fairly rumbly under load. Do yourself a favor and install a balance pipe while you're under there (and within 80" of the heads). Nothing screams "amateur" more than noise with nothing to back it up.

One of the quickest stock, streetable cars I've seen is whisper quiet, and eats V-10 Vipers like snake-Kabobs:

I have seen that and I also like it when they think you have nothing then you beat them. That is the best thing that could happen. I also have a 1994 caprice and I put FMsuper 40 series with no catback an I thnk it ran faster with out the noise than with it. I think it seems that way because it makes more noise than what it runs. And a bout that noise you can get tired of it I know i did. Know I dont know what to do with it I will proboble do an engine swap because I like the way the LT1 run on my car.

My '94 B-Car has FM40s and a tube, and I kept the stock resonators in place just to cut down some of the raspy voice. The factory resonators are a straight perforated tube surrounded by ceramic wool packing, so there is no baffle restriction. It sounds like this:

I have a pair of 40 series Flowmasters on an '88 350 with true duals and with and without cats for a while. I put them on 12 years ago and unless they've redesigned them since then, they aren't the best sounding mufflers out there. Without a cat or resonator, they have a raspy, metallic tone under moderate and hard acceleration, resonate inside the cab at highway speeds (with the exhaust ported all the way out the back) and pop when you get out of the throttle. I won't argue against performance thought. They are one the best for mileage and torque but they need something to attenuate the sound (a resonator.) Honestly, a cheap set of Cherry Bomb turbos had a better throaty tone without the blaring raspy sound. BTW, those Flowmasters are still in good shape after 12 years (southeastern US.) Even as a diehard bowtie, I have to admit the stock Dodges sound really good with a variety of exhausts.

Yeah I hear that. My v8 dodge isn't stock and it sounds perfect.

I heard a GMC about as old as mine with two super turbos on it, and I thought it sounded alright. I think that's probably what I'll go with. I just hope they don't rust out for a few months, haha. I don't want LOUD. So I won't even take the sawzall out of the case today.

One of my friends had a '01 Silverado with cats and two 40 series delta flow mufflers, and that thing was so quiet. The first time he brought it over I thought he had just put dual tailpipes behind the factory muffler or something. Driving down the road it was maybe a little more resonant than stock, but still super quiet. Didn't sound bad though. He ended up selling the mufflers and welding pipe in place, and it sounded better then. Cats are pretty sound restrictive I guess. He still tells me my Dodge sounds way better than that Silverado ever did, although that was a beautiful truck.

Any of you guys got super turbos on your trucks? Any rust issues?

i got a 84 c10 witha 350, headers, dual exhaust with cherry bomb turbo II mufflers and it sounds like a beast. no crossover tubes or nothing, just a 350 .030 over, holley 600 carb, headers, and mufflers all ending before the axle, sounds great and breaks the rear end loose whenever i stomp on it, and i've been quite happy with it. i thought it swas kinda quiet and wimpy sounding then a friend borrowed it and just took off with it like a bat out of hell and i thought it sounded good from an outside view. the turbo II mufflers are only like 20-30 bucks each at autozone
