1986 325 wiring schematic

My temperature gauge spiked and fluctuated a few times, then resorted to reading hot (100%) after warming up a few minutes. After replacing the coolant reservoir cap, themostat, coolant pump, and radiator, talked to a service guy at my local BMW dealer and he suggested that it was possible the wiring to the gauge, the sender, or the instrument cluster could be shorting out and that bypassing it with an aftermarket gauge would determine if the engine truly was overheating or if the wiring was becoming faulty. I'm now weighing that it is a wiring problem as I've gone through most of the mechanical solutions and the symptoms he described is familiar, but my Bentley manual has no wiring schematics with the temperature gauge. I'll call the dealer to ask what voltage the gauge is expecting, but does anyone have the wiring schematic for this?

Sorry if this is a repeat post, but I tried searching the forums before I posted this and and found nothing.
