Re: 92 camaro problems

ignition switch, vats, and 100 other things could be wrong. By the battery there sould be this little solenoid, take a look at it and make sure it is hooked up right. And also chack all wires plus the one going to the starter. First off check fuses.

Re: 92 camaro problems

On the solenoid, the smaller purple wire which is the S terminal, do you have 12 +/- with the key in 'run' ?

Vehicle Anti Theft System. There is a resistor "chip" on your ignition key that is read through the ignition lock and to the VATS module. If the incorrect key is put in the ignition the starter will not engage. A broken module/wiring will also cause it to not engage the starter.

Wow! That's a LOT of Camaro problems. I was guessing that you only had one.

For an idea of the operation of the VATS system, check this page:

The car's VIN # ???

IF you're trying to identify the engine VIN code it is the 8th digit on the tag in the lower left corner of the windsheild.

Otherwise:

E - 5.0 (305)TBI
F - 5.0 (305)TPI
8 - 5.7 (350)TPI

Re: 92 camaro problems

thanks the vin # i posted was the vehicle identification on the vin i appreciate it alot.it is TBI. The previous owner didnt even have the decoder module plugged in. He ran a switch from the grey wire and he cut the green loop in the module. What is the clear connector with a green and red led in it?

Re: 92 camaro problems

Green and red LED? That doesn't sound like a factory item.

If the wires are cut, and the ECM doesn't get the 30 Hz sinking input, and the ECM hasn't been reprogrammed, you'll be trying to start it for a LONG time.
