front diff. actuator on 96 Z71(HELP ME PLEASE)
I need help on the actuator on my front diff. The 4 wheel drive does not engage and I need to know if there are different styles of actuators for my truck. If so how do I tell what I need? And how do I chage it?

Re: front diff. actuator on 96 Z71(HELP ME PLEASE)
The 96 probably came with the thermal actuator, mine did. If you replace it you should upgrade it to the motor driven actuator. If you bought it used, the upgrade may have already been done. They are much more reliable and engage faster. The thermal actuator is connected to two wires, blue and black. The motor driven actuator is connected to three wires, blue black and brown. The brown wire is added as part of the upgrade.
Keep in mind there are other areas that could be causing the 4wd not to work. Does your truck have the shift on the floor or push button 4wd? James |
