1990 2.2 Cavalier

are the 2.2l good engines? I know nothing about them. A guy told me he's sell me his 1990 Cavalier for 400$, but I dont know much about these cars. Alls i need is something to do well on gas and be reliable, I dont care about looks etc... Just dont want something thats going to nickle and dime me to death.

Re: 1990 2.2 Cavalier

with a car that old its impossible to tell, it could be the best engine in the world but if it wasnt taken care of, the "best in the world" reputation doesnt really mean shit, WAY to many factors here...

Re: 1990 2.2 Cavalier

I got a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier RS with 2.2 liter 3 speed automatic. My engine sure could use a good pressure cleaning, but it still keeps up with bad boys! its got over 181,000 miles on it,gave it a complete tune-up 1000 miles ago.New spark plugs, wires, air filter, and fuel filter. of course brake pads are just 2 or 3 months old and have 10000 miles on them! My engine is great! I've also got a performance chip which gives me an additional 18-25 hp and it works! Remember, its whats under the hood that counts!

Re: 1990 2.2 Cavalier

I don't know the brand name, but I bought it off ebay from importracingtrd. As crazy as it may sound, its a resister that goes in the iat sensor! It tricks the computer into thinking that the engine is operating at 53 degrees fairenheit and increases the power. It is perfectly safe as long as its installed correctly! bought it for 88 cents plus shipping!

next week,i'm getting a new torch converter lockup solenoid put on the transmission,it'll cost me 75 dollars plus tax for labor and the part i bought was 27 bucks.

Those things do not work. No "chip" works for our cars. Only Hptuners or something like that.

Re: 1990 2.2 Cavalier

yeah, if i could find a chip like that i would be all over it, but all the chips out there are scams. they are just like those intake tornado things you put in your intake to make more HP and increase MPG, they will never do that.

Re: 1990 2.2 Cavalier

maybe your right! I won't know for sure until i get my transmission fixed next week,it needs a new torch converter lockup solenoid. it won't shift out of 3rd when it gets warm and is killing my gas mileage.

Re: 1990 2.2 Cavalier

that chip connects to your air intake sensor and tricks it into sending more gas....therefore you're actually running rich and using more gas... trust me, I had one for about a month, and I thought it was awesome. Same deal, did it come in a little envelope instead of a package? and looks similar to a PAPER CLIP!!!!..... yeah it's a scam... cost like 2 cents to make and 39 cents to send... so it's like a 1,000% profit...
