Smile i have a 1999 ford taurus se sport

hi, i bought my car nov. 15th 2006 and before i even got home (10mins away) the service engine light came on. the car drove like new but i went back to the dealer and they said that it might be a bad sensor. and wait and see if it goes off. well it did a few days later and then came back on so i went back to the dealer and he said it might be the gas cap and to make sure its tight but it didnt work. does anyone know what might be the problem?

0401 is most likely the dpfe sensor, they're a known problematic part... search on here there has to be a lot of info about that code,, but it could involve any number of items...however the 1744 involves something with the transmission.. did you buy this car from a Ford dealer??? Regardless, in my book it says to perform a complete trans diagnosis... good luck

Well, what kind of warranty did you get with the car??? At any rate, find a locally-owned well-qualified trans repair shop to check out your vehicle...

You're golden if you've got a warranty, I hope. Unfortunately I've got my own issues with my 99, read the "accumulator spring" thread... I called Ford Motor Company this morning, figured it may be a waste though, to vent about trans trashing themselves at 65k miles, told them I figured maybe a headlamp may blow at 65k, certainly not a trans... woman was very pleasant, however nothing came of it.. Local dealer told me some sort of 7 year deal, but I was about a year behind on that one, I was looking for some type of "secret warranty", they are out there.. I could file paperwork with Ford and take the "wait and see" deal, I ain't got time... gonna cost 1450 dollars for rebuilt trans, good local shop.. maybe someday Ford will own up to some of their turds, I'll get a couple of refunds, anyone think I should hold my breath and wait???

Hmmmmm. . . . HULLOOO ! Earth to Ford_Taurus_SE_99! Nov 15th to Jan 18th is over two months and you have a warranty and they STILL haven't fixed it? Has the thought ever crossed your mind that they have done nothing but jerk you around and they have no intention of fixing it?

You made a big mistake driving it home. You should have left it at the dealer and said when you get it fixed let me know, and in the meantime furnish me with a vehicle to drive. You had a problem ten minutes after you took delivery and it has been two months and it hasn't been fixed and you have a warranty?

You are letting them jerk you around and it is the dealers responsibility to fix it, period. This, "wait and see what happens," thing is where you messed up. This is good; the CEL, (check engine light), came on and they said wait and see what happens, then it came on again and you let them blow you off a second time? How many times does it have to go off and on before they fix it? Six, eight or ten times?

Did the thought cross your mind, they are jerking you around copping out and have no intention of fixing it? Turning the CEL off is easy, just disconnect the negative battery terminal ten seconds and it's off. But if the problem is not fixed it will come on again. IMHO, they knew the CEL was on so they turned it of knowing full well it would come on again, and they let you hold it. Not trying to intimitade you Sir, but you need to wake up because you are really rolling over for them.

"gonna cost 1450 dollars for rebuilt trans, good local shop.." Has anyone actually had the vehcile in the shop and professionally diagnosed the codes? Again, that is the dealers problem, not yours. In my opinion, I think they have no intention of doing right and they are going to let you hold it. I'd give them ONE more chance to fix it or you see an attorney because, IF YOU HAVE A LEGAL AND BINDING WARRANTY THAT COVERS THE REPAIRS, you can sue for breech of contract, loss of vehicle use, (when you rent a car while yours is in the shop), plus court costs & attorneys fees. In the end it will cost you nothing and the dealer pays a WHOLE LOT more than just having the car repaired because attorney fees could run $2,000. in addition to the repairs.

Ask for a jury trial and the jury will be hard working stiffs like you and me and they hate it when sorry dealers screw people and you are certain to win. Understand, once you say 'attorney,' you are are issuing an ultimatum and you must follow through or they will laugh in your face everytime you come through the door.

Document every contact up to this time in detail, the time and when you demand they repair it write down exactly what they said and demand they furnish you with a vehicle or they can pay for your rental vehicle. Do not mess around because the longer you wait the more time they have to say you were driving it with no problems, and don't think they won't lie in court. DUH?

ALL THIS *IF* YOU HAVE A LEGAL AND BINDING WARRANTY THAT COVERS THE REPAIRS. Monday go to the dealership and speak with the manager and if no satisfaction your next stop is an attorneys office. If the attorney reads the contract and says it is no good then next stop Eckerds for a big jar of Vaseline. You can contact your local Better Busines Bureau and all they do is write the dealer a complaint letter but they can't recover your money. If I wee you I'd go by the BBB and aks if they have any complaints about the dealer on file. You might just be surprised at with you find . . . .

they are goin to fix my car jan. 26th. i havent really been drivin my car much i've been mostly driving my dad's navigator. but yeah there's aint much i can do about my car and the dealer ship b/c i went up there like hmm mayb 3-4 weeks ago and told the guy my SEL was on and he was giving me an attitude and then my mom came in and he was giving her attitude as well. my service engine light went off last night and it hasnt been on all day. and the dealership is going to say come back when the light comes back on and im goin to tell them to kiss my ass fix my car b/c i already kno wats wrong with it and i have a waranty. and if they give me problems ill just bring in my dad

Re: i have a 1999 ford taurus se sport

The dome light not coming on is probably a sticky door ajar switch in the driver's door latch assembly. This is a very common issue on your vintage Taurus. Does the dome light come on when other doors are opened?

If so, there are numerous posts on this forum regarding the fix. Some suggest WD-40, but I say avoid WD-40 and use electrical parts cleaner. Many have had good luck with WD-40, but it is not intended for electrical connections.

Turn the ignition to the on position and make sure your SES light comes on.
If it has been on a long time it may have burned out the bulb.

You can also get your codes read for free at AZ or buy a 60 dollar code reader
