Hummm
Hi - I'm a new member here, but have an interesting question.
Windstar GL 3.8L, 1998......117k miles. Now getting a hiss/hummmm sound from the center console, kinda in the area of the vent controls/radio. It's not the radio, tho'. The sound is like a tape hiss sound, from the old days of tape players. but, it continues on after the car shuts off for.....5 to 10 seconds. Is this maybe a small leak in vacuum, or in the heater core??? I don't have any wetness or anti-freeze smell in the car. Thanks, Dave |

Re: Hummm
The environmental controls are vacuum operated. Do all of the vent control operations work?

Re: Hummm
The blend door, which is the temperature control is electrical.
The control for where the air goes, Defrost, Vent, Floor.....is vaccum controlled......this is what your problem sounds like. Up under the dashboard...there are some silver bulbs with vaccum lines going to them......follow those lines in the area you hear the sound. If the diverter system loses all vaccum, all the air will go to defrost.....
