Angry darn Engine light again!

Ok so about 2 weeks ago i took my 2002 ford escape to auto zone and they said it was a #5 cylinder missfire. So I replaced all the plugs (old plugs wernt bad at all) but I replaced them anyway. Reset the engine light and it stayed off for about a week. But its back. I pulled out the plug and it looks fine. My next step is the coil pack, has anyone ever had this problem and did the coil pack fix the problem? If that doesnt work what should I do next?

Re: darn Engine light again!

I thought you had changed the coil pack already.

Maybe you can swap the coil pack with another cylinder, reset the computer and see if it changes the code to where you changed it.

Re: darn Engine light again!

No plug wires on the V-6..each plug has an ignition coil pack.

Re: darn Engine light again!

I am in the middle of a similar problem. My Escape 2001 has problem when you start it in the mornings. I went to a mecanic and the scan computer indicate a problem with cylinder 5, but that doesn't fix the problem. I went to the Ford retailer here and they said that we have to replace the EGR valve and the manifold gaskets. The cost $541 I'm thinking what can I do.

Re: darn Engine light again!

There is a post on the EGR dif. pressure sensor..
I've had three on my 01.

Pull code to verify. I bought a code checker so I can see for myself....don't trust dealers and such.

Hope you didn't spend the 550 bucks already..

Buy a code checker...see if you have a code p0401...cost so far is $100..

Buy an Egr pressure differential switch....cost about $40...

Change it...takes about 10 minutes....

Total cost...$150...and you can reuse the code checker...you'll need it.....with some unnamed unreliable brands..

Re: darn Engine light again!

Had a similiar problem. REplaced the #5 coil on mine, but also found a hole in a vacuum line. Tis line comes off the rear of the intake (right side hose) and snakes around and ends under the intake. I've pached the hole until I can get a new part. Anyone ell me the name of this vacuum hose?

Re: darn Engine light again!

Replaced my broken emissions hose. About $20 for the hose. Put it on myself. No more stalling at lights. That cyl #5 problem popped up again though.

Re: darn Engine light again!

The cheap way is to disconnect the battery.

The other way is to use the code checker that I mentioned in an earlier post on this thread. You can clear it with that as well as get the code.
