help 3.2 liter engine idling really rough
hi, I am new to the forum. I have searched around for any possible explanation why my 2000 rodeo, which was just taken on a 400 mile tripover the weekend, would be running rough upon starting it the very next morning. it sounded like some of the cylinders weren't firing or getting any fuel. i unpluggged the 3 spark plug cables on the passenger side with the car on at idle, and the sound of the vehicle did not change one bit. so I am assuming it is in the engine. i usually do some general tune up and maintenance to the car myself, but this one has me baffled. i don't know what to search under for this one. any possible help would greatly appreciated. the vehicle is a 2000 rodeo with 80,000 miles on the clock

Re: help 3.2 liter engine idling really rough
Hi ... I had the same problem with my 2001 v6 rodeo. It was running rough in the mornings. I replaced Fuel Pressure Regualator, did not help. Took it to the dealership thinking it was a fuel pump ( under warranty until 120,000 miles) NOPE ... The computer program needed to be updated, original old program did not turn fuel pump on in the mornings when engine was cold. After $190 the car runs great, even on 87 octane gas. Before I had to use only 93, even with 89 I could hear all 24 valves running. Weird but true. I believe this fix should be done for free but i was told that in these days software is treated as parts and we have to pay for it. Good luck PS. One week later I started having problem with EGR valve - now I expect many problems to come after the dealership visit .... They want my $$$$ I guess
