just take off connector at alternator, remove alternator bolts, and belt and thats it. its gonna be kinda difficult since the alternator is in the rear of the engine. good luck

Jack up driver side
I just finished replacing an alternator on a 1996 Civic. After putting the car on ramps, I took out the top bolt, the 2 wire connections on the back of the alternator, plus the wire hold-down bolt on the back of the alternator, then the bottom bolt (actually, it wasn't even in there!), then the bracket that the bottom bolt goes in. There wasn't clearance to get the alternator out, so after finding this thread I jacked up the driver side until the front driver's wheel was fully extended (the axle stopped going down even if I went higher). I put in a jack stand for safety, and after trying a few different directions, was able to pull the alternator out of the left side of the compartment from the bottom, just above the axle. Oh yeah, the black plastic shield/air dam on the bottom front of the car was removed, but I don't know if that was necessary.
