Leaky Oil Filter
99 S-10 Blazer 4x4
Every since I have had my truck it has always leaked oil from the oil filter. Is this a normal problem that everyone has or is it just the way that I install my filters. I have tried tightening them 3/4 of turn past hand tight I've tried more and less tight. It doesn't matter it still leaks. Any ideas? |

Re: Leaky Oil Filter
First of all are you sure that its the filter and not some of the surrounding hoses/connections. No its not normal to leak oil from the filter as far as I am concerned.
I install my filters as so, 1. Remove old Filter 2. Be sure old gasket comes off with the old one. 3. Take new filter and dip your finger in oil and run it along the new seal, will keep it from sticking/help seal 4. Hand tighten it, then give it a turn or so just snug it up. Not sure if that differs from your procedure but its has never fail me. I learned the hard way for step 2. Installed a new filter/seal onto the old seal not realizing it. Drove 100 miles and then it leaked 2 quarts out in 1 minute............... |

Re: Leaky Oil Filter
Look above that remote filter and you will see the 2 sets of remote lines and they all leak at the crimps - replace with Dorman lines. Called remote oil cooler lines with 1 set filter to radiator and 1 set filter to engine (adaptor where the filter was 4wd and still is on 2wds).
