Exclamation 94 LeSabre randomly stalling..PLEASE HELP!

I am at my wits end. I have a 94 LeSabre (mileage 159,000 - its been around) and have had to take it to the mechanic shop four times within the past six months!

I been keeping up with my oil changes, air filter replacements (just had both those done), last time it was in the shop they replaced the CAM sensor and cleaned the fuel injection system, and checked everything, but it still dies.

When the car stalls it is very random. It use to stall on any highway travel but now it stalls standing still at a red light, in the middle of a right hand turn, wherever. And it is not consistent on how it shuts off. Sometimes I feel a jolt or a jerk from the car and it shuts off with the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light remaining on. Other times it shuts off with no jolt or jerk and the SERVICE ENGINE SOON does not appear.

And to add a further complaint when the car does stall (which is becoming more frequently) I cannot keep the car in drive and restart it or put the car in neutral and restart it; it can only be restarted by putting the car in PARK and then proceeding to turn it on which it normally starts right back up.

Please help! This car is becoming increasingly dangerous to drive. Thanks for any help anyone may give.

I like to start with the easy (& free!) stuff first. Make sure your battery connections are clean & tight. Then check the driver's side ground bus for corrosion. If any is found remove the metal bar & clean all the electrical contacts.

Your mechanic didn't check for a code when the vehicle was serviced? When your SES light came on, the ECM got a code (or codes) stored. You can get the car scanned for free at most auto parts storesm and hopefully get more clues this way. Also, I'd look into replacing the fuel filter if you haven't already done so, as well as the PCV valve.

Have you found the answer?? I have the exact same problem with my 94 Lesabre. It dies anywhere and everywhere! I also can't start it in Nuetral, but have to pull over, put it in Park and it starts right up.(Not fun when it dies on the highway.)

I've had this problem on several vehicles over the years. If you have an electric fuel pump you may want to get a fuel pressure check. Sometimes you can have stalling problems when fuel pressure is too low or inconsistent.

Thanks Russel,
I'll check the fuel pump pressure, but I'm thinking why would the car have to put in park to start. Normally it should start in nuetral also. So I'm suspecting the ECM now.

Hi Jerry - Is the starter working when you try to start in neutral?

Re: 94 LeSabre randomly stalling..PLEASE HELP!

Hi Jerry... Just looked at the Schematic.. It shows either position should work and the wire between neutral and park start are at the same place. Just a small jumper on the schematic.
The circuit labels the location as "park neutral position switch" is in the left rear of engine, left side of transaxle

Hope this helps.

Re: 94 LeSabre randomly stalling..PLEASE HELP!

I pop it in nuetral when it dies while moving to try and start it while still rolling. It's as if it was in Drive, the starter doesnt turn. It seems strange, but I read this in another thread also. i have to stop of course to put it in Park then it starts up right away. If it's only a jumper between N & P I'm really confused. i think I should try the cam shaft and crank shaft sensors, as I've never changed them and I have 154k miles. Cheaper then he ECM. Where are these two sensors? Thanks very much.
