Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno F1 mention

Just caught a snippet of Jay Leno mentioning the McLaren F1 on the Tonight Show. Not sure if it is for something coming up later in the week or not...
More to follow if I hear any more tonight before passing out.

Edit: bit more here - http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/cars/mclaren_shell.shtml, the McLaren has today's date next to it whatever that means. There is no mention of the car on the official Tonight Show schedule for the week.

Edit II: the video on the site is awesome. Jay does a walk and talk around the car and even shows off the torque wrench and an autographed picture of he and Gordon Murray standing together in the garage. Great shot of the super-size version of the Nicholas Watts painting on the wall behind the car.

Re: Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno F1 mention

That video is exactly why Jay is my hero. Terrific find, thank you for sharing. I've really wanted a video like that from Jay for so long, and I can't wait for the follow up where he takes the car out.

Edit: There are actually two videos of the F1 on Jay's site. One in the "At the Garage" section, and one in the "Under the Hood" section. The second video doesn't feature Jay, and has some misinformation regarding the LMs.

That was Bernard Juchli, the chief mechanic and caretaker of Leno's collection. He's a bit confused on the LMs for sure, but I can tell you that he has probably forgotten more about cars that any of us are likely to know.

I loved the remarks about the price of the exhaust and the presence of a tool roll! He jokes (elsewhere) about the cost of the wiper but also seems totally sincere about it being the best ever supercar. Seems like a real car guy to me - not like some of those other pooftahs. Can't wait for the next installment.

After reading this I wanted to hear it for myself, turned on the TV, Leno's on, 5 minutes into watching it there it is!

Says it right before the ad-break before Paula Abdul comes on as guest #1.

What did he say??

I turned it on too late...just saw that ugly \ hag and had to turn the TV off again. Apologies to the Abdul/transvestite fan base.

Let's see...if I remember correctly it was something along the lines of:

"For more headlines, go to www.nbc.com/The_Tonight_Show_with_Jay_Leno/, and be sure to check out Jay's Garage, [cough] excuse me, this week featuring the McLaren F1 supercar. When we come back, Paula Abdul."

That was about it. The Tonight Show mention was nothing to get excited over, but the actual internet content is great.

Does anyone know of a way to rip these two vids? I haven't been able to figure out how to rip what I assume to be .flv files.

Try this http://digitalliving.cnet.co.uk/insi...9282714,00.htm

Also google this
"how to capture .flv files" - I got a lot of hits that seemed to be exactly what you need.

Yes - the problem was that when I made my original post I hadn't been paying attention to the show so I'm sitting here with my back to the tv hearing Jay going blah, blah, buzzz, buzzzzzzzzzzzz, blah McLaren F1 but at that point I couldn't tell that all he was doing was saying that it was the featured car that day on his garage web site. Whatever he's still my hero too.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I had tried using Keepvid, but that didn't work. Let's see how an extension for firefox works out.

Re: Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno F1 mention

He has #15! And in black with some red! He's definately gone higher up in my books! 15 is a special number to me because it's my birth date, and a black McLaren is just my favorite color. The red touch is also very nice.

He basically, created the McLaren I wish I owned! And thank goodness it's Jay, too. Loved the segments.

BTW, anyone know how big that picture on the wall behind him was?

And now to wait for his segment on the Miura or the Diablo.

Black is my favorite color for the McLaren too, but I hate the red stripe.

Which Diablo does he have? A VT, SV, GT?

It's my understanding that Jay's car is original, but that he was not the original owner, thus not the creator of it's look. I believe he purchased the car in 2000 and it was built in 1994. I heard it was previously in Germany, but I can't confirm that. Either way, it is a sharp looking F1.

Since you are such a fan of his F1, here's an album of photos I took in 2005 at the ArtCenter Car Classic. If you'd like a couple of them at a larger resolution, feel free to ask.

It's HUGE! I'd guess it measures 16'x12' at least. In case you aren't familiar, it's a famous painting done by Nicholas Watts.

I've seen a lot of recent photos from inside Leno's garage, but don't recall seeing any Lamborghinis newer than the red Countach he owns.
