FXX...long WIP

Ok, so I have received my first FXX kit. I say my first because it arrived with the damaged monocoque and broken pillars (I think they are beyond repair at this point) so I will be ordering another one soon.

My approach to this build is to gather as many parts as I can, from as many sources as possible, to build the most detailed, realistic replica I can.

I have many...MANY parts still coming, but I figured I would get a kick start with this thread and may be start gathering feedback and suggestions.

Here is the opening shot:

Some parts you can see here is Sakatsu Ferrari fluid caps, Crazy Modeler emblems from Hiroboy, some PE frets for other Ferraris, that I can pirate certain parts from, various Ferrari decals, engine decals, data sheets, etc.

I don't know what happened to this photo, but I wanted to take a photo of the parts sprues to show how detailed the model is and how different it is from the Enzo. This shot shows the wheels. They will get to be removable, with the threaded wheel knock offs from AcuStion.

Here are examples of other items that may (hopefully) get replaced by metal items...

I also started to work on the seats. I opened up the seat belt holes (they will get more cleaned up later). The seat will be covered in black flocking, deatiled with 5 point harness and Cf decals for the back.

These are the beginings of the PE seatbelt set up - from Crazy Modeler - availble through Hiroboy.com (highly recommended BTW)

Suggestions? Comments? anyone has any parts to donate ?

Thanks, and please keep checking back in for updates, as I am going to begin some preliminary engine work and wiring.

Re: FXX...long WIP

Hi slk! been waiting for u to start your FXX... looking from reference pictures , i saw that the seatbelts of the FXX were red... and they do not have the belt cushion on... i think i spelled that wrong there... hope u can figure what im talking about.

Hmm u should get the tamiya PE set as a start... it provides very accurate PE for the seatbelts.

Re: FXX...long WIP

Hey slk. Subscribed. I recommend the Tamiya P/E fairly nice sheet and not overly expensive. I've been going over my kit looking at all the things I can try on my new lathe. Given the previous stuff by Crazy Modeler I am waiting to see what they have in store. Good luck with the build.

Mike.

Re: FXX...long WIP

great start, you have a lot of work ahead but I am sure it will turn out amazing!

There's only 1 problem, the FXX is a race car and you posted the wip in the street forum

Re: FXX...long WIP

Haha - I guess I kept debating where to post this thread...but decided its going to be in the Street category.

The seat belts are not for the FXX, the FXX ones are going to be red.

The Cavalino on the headrest are going to be covered by paint, but I want it there for the shadow effect.

I have ordered Tamiya PE set also. Its in the mail (and had been for about a week).

Looks to be good so far!

I think we need a FXX forum only, there are many popping up, lol.

OK. Here is the list I've made
If you open the instruction manual and start at step 1, I'll keep all the parts in order.
Step 1
D10 - all the pulleys
F2 - The intake pipes (this includes part F5)
F7, F9 - The black cylinder on top of the gearbox (it's just easier to turn a new part rather than clean up the mold line and mask/paint?)
D6 - X 2
Step 3
F5 - as detailed above
Step 4
C14, C15 - I really want to see what Crazy Modeler does with the brakes? Does anyone have any reference pictures of the brakes? If they are F1 style carbon discs then we are better off making these rather than using photo-etch. If they are like normal steel discs then the PE bits will look better?
Either way the calipers will need modifying?
C14, C15 - threaded hubs for the wheel nuts
Step 5
Same as rear brakes
Step 6
D18 - The shocks
Step 7
C2 - Fluid reservoir?
Step 8
E32 - All the 8 buttons on the steering wheel
E23 - All the buttons on the console
I'm also going to cut off the vents and cast them in resin so I can cover the dash in CF more easily
Step 9
C27 - Fire extinguisher
C19 - X 2 (are these the hydraulic jacks?)
Step 11
D14 -
C1 - Cap
Step 13
C28 - Fuel cap
F20 - Fluid bottle
C1 - Cap
Step 14
D24 - Rear Shocks
Step 19
C1 - Cap
Step 28
Exhaust tips x 4
Step 30
C4 - Wheel nuts X 4 (working)
Step 31
L5 - X 2 light surrounds

This is just the preliminary list that I do whenever I decide to detail a kit. Of course I still need to consult with Paul so there may be some changes. Also some of these items will need to be made from a few bits as well.

Thoughts?

Re: FXX...long WIP

These are the beta version of Crazy Modeler's new brake disk set for FXX, but the centeral piece looks too thin now, could be thicken when ready to sell.

Re: FXX...long WIP

Brakes look reasonable: Going to wait for these to be released and see how they come out as a final. I wonder if CrazyModeler is going to release etched rivets (for the underpanels and the three on the windscreen) because that would be great for the FXX and save a fortune from buying scale aluminium rivets from Sakatsu. I'd be intrested in extra resin cooling ducts too but I think they focus more on parts that can be packaged in a flat piece :P Good luck on this super-detailed build, slk and I'm quite sure this project (and others too ) will prove that the SLR is a past time, and this kit is of higher quality bringing modelling out-of-the-box another level up the scale. I won't be surprised if more FXXs come along and yes, we might need an exclusive zone for this build!

Re: FXX...long WIP

hahah Now that I got Rob interested in this build, I know its going to be an interesting thread.

Of course I agree with the list. As we discussed, the brakes can be modified from the PE items, but will likely need a threaded metal hub, so that the working wheel nuts can thread in and out, making the wheels removable.

The calipers are going to be tricky...

I have ordered a number of items from MediaMix, so they are coming from Sg.

I am currently working on the seat railing and release mechanisms - one small project at a time.
