95 Aurora

Well...I believe the cluster finally quit in my 95. No gauges at all. No DIC. The brake booster has quit and now I feel a miss in the engine. The miss started the other day, when believe I got some bad gas. I bought some Lucas and it ran a little better, and now has started again. I wonder if it has caused the plugs to foul? I can handle having a hard brake pedal...( I did find a booster on a junker for $40 compared to a new one for $370), and I can handle no gauges, but jerking has to go. Please help. I have priced plugs and wires, and the cost is ridiculous....

Re: 95 Aurora

Based on my experiences with my 96', plugs & wire harness are the problem.
I have 91000 miles on my car and have had to replace them twice. The second time I tried to get away with replacing plugs only. The engine skip was still there, Replaced wires & solved problem.
My experience says to expect less than 50000 miles on plugs & wires.

Re: 95 Aurora

Thanks for the info. Actually, last night it got worse. It drove fine all day. Last night I got in it, and it idled very rough, and the closer to home I got, it began to smoke, from under the hood.
I will see about changing out the plugs and wires, but when I hear it run, it sounds like a hole in the exhaust. The oild was a quart low and I added that and some trans fluid too since it showed low. Since I thought there could be water in the gas, I bought something to remove the water.
I had to drive it this morning, and it seemed to drive a little better...at least it didn't smoke, but it still idled rough, and vibrated in about 4th or 5th gear, then would smooth out.
Still think it could be the plugs?

Re: 95 Aurora

If the plugs & wires haven't been replaced in more than 40000 miles,
I would replace them, even if it doesn't correct your problem, they
will need to be replaced soon, IMO.

Re: 95 Aurora

for the no gauges and dic there is a fuse under the seat that blew, happened to me several times and all you have to do is look through them and find the blown one and replace it. every thing should work

Re: 95 Aurora

Cluster u gotta buy new, have you checked the correct fuse?
My 95 Aurora had 15-17mpg mileage and hesitation and overheat, then I changed the Catalytic Converter ($170) changed 2 older coils from the 4 coilpack+ bought a set of 8 NGK irridium spark plugs ($28), and 8 Borg-Warner spark plug wires (Don't listen to dealers' recommendation of using GM parts).
Since these got done, I've been having smoooooth running engine, 25.3mpg freeway 21 city mileage and car is always cool other than a minor heat at extended slow traffics.
