Please help me figure out this noise in the front of my 93' Euro
The car makes a single loud clunk in the front end when I am making a right hand turn and going up a slight incline. It does this when I pull into my apartment and when I pull into the parking lot at work. The car makes no such noise when I make a left into the same areas. I have taken the car to a couple of shops but they have not been able to find anything wrong with the car, but I am not sure how hard they are looking either. On another note recently I have heard a single moderately loud clunk when taking off from a red light and within the past 3 years my car has cracked 2 windshields starting down in the lower corners. Below is a list of parts I have replaced or tested on the front end. Car has 87,000 miles on it
-Struts (replaced twice) -Strut Mounts(replaced) -Outer tie rods (replaced) -Inner tie rods (tested and very tight in rack and pinion) -Ball joints (tested good) -Sway bar bushings (all intact and no cracks) -Torque struts (replaced) -Motor Mounts and trans mount (tested and some movement noticed but am not sure if it was too much or not) |

Re: Please help me figure out this noise in the front of my 93' Euro
OK Ball joints tested good is almost meeaningless...these are rather difficult to test: they must be tested with CAR resting on tire..not jacked up..and a good way to see if have someone in the car and slightly turning steering fast, left and right, time after time, ..just 1/4 turn each way, ..and you looking under and even feeling with your hand on ball joint and any play will reveal then. Jacking the car up as some do will apply the full force of the spring on ball joint and will inhibit any play.
This being said, last summer I had something similar and it proved being the bolts that tie the half frame to the unit body, in my case the rear 2 bolts, under the front floor. Torqued them to satisfaction...and all noise went away.

Re: Please help me figure out this noise in the front of my 93' Euro
Like the last poster, I would also suspect or at least look at the subframe to unibody mounts...they are prone to broken bolts and rusting out issues especially if you live north and drive in snow a lot...they will make noise when the body is twisted as you describe, and are also subject to driveline torque since the subframe supports it, so could make noise on accelerating hard or engine braking under the right conditions.

Re: Please help me figure out this noise in the front of my 93' Euro
I live in Florida now and the car was from NC, so no salt exposure and very little if any rust. Does anyone have a schematic of the bolts that I need to check that bolt the subframe to the unibody? Thanks

Most of those were recalled. I got a notice when my old '90 was 12 or 13 years old for free replacement of those bolts.

Thanks for the info guys, my car was never recalled
. Is the torque on these 105ftlbs? I believe this is what autozone manual states. Thanks
