93 trunk pulldown inop

Hello , trunk pulldown is not working , i tried a second one i got for free and still nothing . I put a test light on the harness wires and only the blue - red stripe one lit up , the solid red did not . Should both wires make the light go on and is there a way to put power to the moters to see if the work ......thanks

Re: 93 trunk pulldown inop

How The Circuit Works, 1993
  • When the Trunk Lid is opened, the Trunk Lid Pull-down Switches change positions to drive the striker up.
  • When the Trunk Lid is lowered and latched, the Pull-down Switches change position and the Trunk Lid Pull-down Switch remains closed.
  • This allows the Trunk Lid Pull-down Motor to run and to pull the lid closed.
  • When the lid is closed, the Trunk Lid Pull-down Switch opens, stopping the motor.

Re: 93 trunk pulldown inop

Here's some more useful stuff:

Copyright by smurf of MA:
well had the trunk pull down motor stop working in the up position. took out the dealer cd and found out the trunk pull down switch mounted ontop of the motor. reverses polatery [+ to -] [- to +]within the switch.this is why it usaly stops working in the up position.your only hope is to use a small dreamal tool and grind off the pins so u can carfully take the top halph of the switch apart. u will see contack points that are dirty clean them but dont bend the contack points. then put the pins back in and superglue around best u can.i did forget to tell u to take the switch off the motor first.install the switch back and it should fix the problem. if it dosent eather the dioe that switches polatery blew out or the motor is bad. to test the motor add 12v to one side of the motor on one terminal and ground on the other reverse to make the motor go the other way.best to do this after the switch removal to see if the motor is any good.took me halph an hour to clean contacks, test motor, and reinstall. now it works like a charm.

Also, a note from Dereck over the pond:
Also check the switch on top of the motor, the usual problem is the toggle on the side breaks.
