help 1991 buick regal limited has a few issues
ok i am lookin to this site in hopes of some help with my buick. it has s few problems. but dont all used cars. lol. anyways, here goes. first of all it has no power going up hill. but runs and idles and drives smooth. when u let off the brake to hit the gas the car stays still untill you hit the gas. and if you are on a hill the car will roll backwards. now this is an automatic car and that doesnt seem right to me. next problem, before i got the car my dad owned it. when he had it it overheated and in result the waterpump had to be replaced . so when i got the car it was still overheating when sitting idle. so i changed the thermostat. now it doesnt over hear any more BUT. i have no heat. i mean like heat heat. it gets warm coming from the vents BUT... when u turn on the blower to get a blast of heat it gets cold in a few seconds. any help or ideas would be so awesome. as i love this car. its pimpin. my email is [email protected] please help. -Brett

Re: help 1991 buick regal limited has a few issues
probably not such a hot idea to give out your cell number on a public forum. but to each his own.
The car should roll slowly if its in drive and level. It sounds like one of your brakes is sticking a little bit. Put the car into neutral with it level and try to push it. If it won't move, then you'll need to jack the car up and find out which wheel is sticking. This has four wheel disc, correct? The rear discs on these W-body's sucked. With the heat, it sounds like you didn't get all the air out of the cooling system. I would work on this first as you can get air pockets in the cylinders heads and create a hotspot. What I do, using gloves, is open the radiator cap fully and run it until the therm opens. You can feel the upper hose get hot when this happens. Ideally, you can squeeze the heater hoses a little bit with the cap open to purge a little bit air that may be in there. If that doesn't work, then it's probably clogged. If one hose is hot and the other cold, you know it is. They should be about the same temperature. As far as the lack of power, when's the last time this car had a tune-up? My old regal did this as soon as the cat started to clog. Hit it with a hammer and see if it rattles. This is not a fool-proof test, but It's a start. Let us know how it goes. How many miles on this? If the odometer works |
