Simple Green? Goo Gone? My 79's steering wheel was sticky like that.

Tough Stuff, my Rambler's steering wheel was gooey form the rubber slwoly breaking down after sitting. A few hours soaking it an dthen let it sit in the sun and all is well.

$300 new dash... good to go. Sticky stuff is hard to get rid of.. Dylan's gooey, "slwoly" breaking down rubber is something I wouldn't touch with a 40 foot pole.

Besides if it is because the materials are breaking down it's in the process of dying anyway.

(Edit: Replacing dash is easier than you think.)

No, the wheel that's on it a a vintage Grant and I believe it was the protectants added into the compound to retain it's finish. The same wheel is on the car to this day after I used some Blue Coral revitaliser on it
