|
what do i do when i get to the airport
so on the sixteenth, i leave for colorado from midway airport in chicago. i already bought my round trip tickets and all that jazz, problem is i have no idea what to do when i get to the airport. kinda realized this yesterday...
 anyways im lost, i dont know what im supposed to do. i used travelocity and bought my tickets online.

you walk into the airport, go to departures, find the desk for you to check in at. they'll check your baggage and whatnot. then you go screw around for a while if you've got time, i suggest going through security as soon as possible so that if there are any complications you won't miss your flight. when going through security, just remove anything metal, watch, belt, etc. to make the whole thing go more smoothly. once you're through, find your gate so that you know where it is, then you can kill some time.

It would help if you told us which airline.
If you booked with Southwest, go online 24 hours before your flight and check in for your flight, then print your boarding pass. This will help you secure optimal seat position on the plane. When you get to the airport go to SW and check any luggage you have and go to the security gate for the gate your flight is departing from. Through anyone else, when you arrive at the airport, go to the area signposted for the airline you're travelling with and look for their self-help check in kiosks. Go to the kiosk and swipe your credit card (the computer uses it to confirm ID, there is not going to be a charge), then enter details as it prompts you. Once you're checked in it will print your boarding pass. Check any luggage you have and then proceed to the security check point for the gate your plane is departing from. Get through security and go find the departure gate and relax until they start boarding.

Oh for the love of God, if you have to go onto the tarmac to your aircraft just follow the instructions, don't get some idea in your head that the plane taxiing down the runway is yours and run after it flailing your arms trying to get it to stop. It's not a bus, he won't go "oh sorry mate" and let you on.
True story the AVSEC chief at Chch airport told me.

Best advice, get there a few hours early and find the bar. Being tanked at a few thousand feet is what flying is all about!

Nobody mentioned liquids are banned from your carry on. No water, lotions etc before the security. Then open your wallet inside the secured area and buy some. Doesn't matter if the bottles are sealed. Nothing over 3 oz. But the Koisk's do make your check in much easier. Look for them, no lines!!!
