Engine Light on EGR valve

01 Escape

33000miles not exact

The engine light came on took it to auto zone for a test and they said it was the ERG valve, To spray carb cleaner down it . I removed the EGR it look clean, no build up. Should I spray cleaner, or is there something else I could do? Thanks

Re: Engine Light on EGR valve

Use a vacuum pump and test it. Make sure the vacuum lines are good. Check the parts that the EGR is connected to.

Cool Re: Engine Light on EGR valve

Try this link:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=449603

From a poster on AF:
"It appears that Ford has had problems with their Differential Pressure Feedback Exhaust Recirculation Valve. (DPFEGR). Most of what I read linked this trouble code to the EGR valve Pressure Sensor. (DPFEGR - same thing). Right now it is a Dealer Only Part."

EDit: I have had three put in mine..it is easy to change. Pull a code.

Re: Engine Light on EGR valve

Check local autoparts for an "EGR Pressure Sensor". That is the name given to it by them...

Re: Engine Light on EGR valve

I have a 2002 Ford Escape V6 with 130,000+ miles. The emmissions light came on and AutoZone checked the error code (for free). It was P0402, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow (EGR) Excessive Detected. The possible problems were either the EGR valve or EGR sensor (DPFEGR) was bad.

After researching, a lot of people seemed to think there was better chance of the sensor going bad than the valve. I purchased a new sensor ($40 at Pep Boys) and installed it in minutes. (Quicker then unhooking the battery connection.) It did the trick! Light is off and I passed emmsiions inspection this morning.

If anyone gets this code, I would recommend replacing the sensor. It's cheap and simple to do yourself.

Re: Engine Light on EGR valve

Thanks for the update. I did not know Pep Boys had this part, but that makes sense since this part commonly goes bad.
