Ever hear of this? tranny stuff..

So today I go to my shop to pick up my short shifter that came in(skunk 2 baby) and one of the guys and I start talking about stuff and he says to me that resting your hand on the shifter while driving can screw up your synchros in the tranny. Has anyone heard of this or is this just common knowledge that has somehow skipped my mind?
Oh yeah, on the way home tonight I was raced by a 94 plymouth voyager with green washer lights and a double decker aluminium wing on top of it. No shit. it was sooo bad. That thing kept up well though, til about 40mph.

Well, I don't know, I've heard that before (about the hand on the shifter)... I always rest my hand on the shifter, and I'm pretty damn sure that my synchros are going out... Never heard anything concrete though.

"Resting" your hand on the shifter will not harm any thing. When you apply any pressure to the shifter is when wear begins. Drive in any gear & pull/push the shifter in the direction, you'll hear it.

Yes I have heard of this. I believe that you put any pressure on the syncros while engaged it will wear them out earlier, and even more if a short throw shifter. Cause of the leverage. But it may not do this in a week it would take years Im sure.

right, wont happen right away. will take miles & years to do it. pre-mature wear is a bitch, something to get used to if you own a "performance" car
