Re: Anti virus poll

McAfee just happens to be the choice of my company, which I had to support for a number of years. I just got used to it and feel comfortable with it

Re: Anti virus poll

I like AVG. Haven't had an issue yet while running it and the best part of all it's FREE. (Free is good.)

Re: Anti virus poll

I wouldn't really say any antivirus program is my "favorite", but AVG has been good to me and anyone else I tell to get it. I also hear good things about Trend Micro's antivirus software, but have no experience with it.

Re: Anti virus poll

thank you. Is this something that can/ should be run without another anti-virus software?

It is best not to run more than one, they may conflict with one another.

Re: Anti virus poll

What I mean is: does it do a sufficient job by itself?

Re: Anti virus poll

I use Bit Defender's free online scanner. Works better than MacAfee, Norton, Trend Micro, and AVG. Avast is also a good option.

Re: Anti virus poll

McAfee owns your soul. Or I'm used to it and know how to trick it into doing what I want it to do...one of the two. Either way, I like it.

Yes. It does a very god job on my computer. While it is recommended to only run one antivirus program on your computer, you can have more than one adware/spyware program. This is a good thing to utilize on your computer to get rid of stuff that can slow your computer down, and cause other problems. I run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot S&D, and Windows Defender. Along with that I run CCleaner. A good site to check out for free downloads of programs like this and other types of free programs is www.filehippo.com .

Not exactly real-time protection though. I would rather the virus not get in at all, rather than remove it at a later time when I feel like doing a scan.

Re: Anti virus poll

Norton and McAfee are rubbish, I would never use or recommend them. Everything I've heard about BitDefender has been reasonably good, so that's the best of the ones listed.

However, my personal recommendation would be NOD32, Trend Micro or Kaspersky.
