Huge Problem... Moronic Solution

So, I was driving a tad wrecklessly today and something happened. Every single light in the car dimmed, my directional lights didn't work, just stayed on (no blink), and my "Coolant Low" light came on. Next thing I know, when I pull into a gas-station to add a 20oz bottle of water, my car dies completely, no start. Not to mention the fact that the coolant was a little over-full and the battery is less than a month old!

I get a jump from a guy in a Ford F-150, and get back on the road. The car just drives like crap the whole way home and the interior lights are about half-lit at full-blast.

I get ready to go out again and the car's dead again. I chase down a buddy at 12:30am to help me jump the car and nothing happens.. The lights in the car go on, the radio works, but there just isnt enough juice to turn the motor... even with the Volt-Meter reading 12v's.

So... next thing you know my girlfriend (who is wrong 60% of the time and car-illiterate 89%) said, did you check the connections to the battery?

I'm like.. Of course, they're on! Then I thought better of it... I reach over to the + terminal and sure-enough, it's loose by about a 1/4 turn. I snug down the terminal with my hand and tell her to hit it. Vrooom. She starts.

Needless to say, I've had a very stressful day over NOTHING.

As soon as the battery was connected properly, everything worked fine and the coolant-light turned off. I guess the short caused by the loose terminal may have tripped something, either that or when I was horsing around the coolant shifted and created an air-bubble in the system.

I don't think the grandpa-mobile will be doing any more hard driving. The poor thing can't take it... She's my baby from now on.

Feel free to call me a moron. Lol.

Dan

Moron.

Can't resist a open invitation

seriously, is the battery hold down clamp in place? Better be sure, cause if not the battery could get jarred around enough and break the plates then you'll really be at a loss. Also, makes sure you ahve the spacer inbetween th e2 positive cables. When I bough tmy PA it had a random goofy starting issue and when I went to check for corrosion I was shocked (literally) to find out it wasn't there.

I wouldn't say you're a moron. You did save yourself big money from taking it to a shop and them getting you to pay some money for something you could have, and did fix yourself.

I did check the mount, and it's there... snug as ever. I think it's just the vibrations, and the fact that it's a new battery... I should've checked the connections after the first couple thousand miles just to ensure they were tight.

Oh well... At least it's nothing serious!
