Re: is a mr2 FWD?

the mr2 is definitely fwd, just like the civic is rwd...research this stuff...

if you want a fast rwd go with honda they make the fastest rwd cars in the world...the mr2 is just a geo metro with a spoiler and rims.

Re: is a mr2 FWD?

Mid engine rear drive vehicle

The seller probably means that he has the front wheel drive(fwd) tranny from a corolla in the mr2, which allows the engine to have a lower rpm on the highway because the mk1 mr2(85-89) tranny has short ratios and can be annoying on the interstate. Mine sits at 4000 around 70mph. The fwd tranny will lower that to around 3000 at 70mph. ....It makes the car more comfortable for daily driving at high speeds.

edit: I just read its a 93 (mk2), I'm more familiar with the mk1, but that tranny swap is probably possible for the second generations also.

Re: is a mr2 FWD?

I can't imagine having to cruise the highway @ 4k, geez. I thought my 93 turbo was bad, I cruise 3k @ 70mph. I wish it was a 6spd for the open highway dont you guys??

I just feel like my car dosn't like a speed over 70+ mph, I feel like I am using to much gas..... reving to high. Just dosn't feel comfortable.

I soo badly want a 6th gear, but the engine is ready to GO with it sitting at 4000 on the highway. A roll from 70-higher is pretty easy if I leave it in 5th cause that the powerband. I always thought the mk2 was a nice highway cruiser cause its bigger.

Re: is a mr2 FWD?

there was a 6sp that came with the ae101... swaps over.

also, camry manual transmissions have swap friendly internals (for a turbo car)... with lower ratio gearing.

Re: is a mr2 FWD?

my sentra has a 6spd ...I think 80mph is around 3k in 6th...if feels like it isn't pushing the car too hard either...that's how I get speeding tickets

The mr2 turbo redlines a bit higher than my spec v (almost 1000 rpms ) so I it shouldn't feel like you are pushing the car too hard on the highway if you are at just 3000rpms...though I've never been in one so obviously this is just logic, but it just doesn't seem right.
