Cavalier Charcoal Box

My friend has a 96 cavalier. he is having stalling / sputtering issues. he took it to a mechanic. they told him he was missing a "charcoal Box". has anyone else heard of this I searched google several times and couldn't find anything. Also if that's not anything then what could it be.
