Civic mileage?

Im looking at buying a 97 civic with 130k on it. Guys im looking for a average mileage these models can go before they start to fall apart. I need it to last for another 4 years at least while I go through college. If its generally been taken care of well what kind of milage am I looking at getting out of it?

Re: Civic mileage?

If maintained properly, well over 200,000 miles is literally nothing for a stock engine. Worst case scenario is the water pump going out in the future. There are older Civics out there still going with over 400,000 miles on the odometer.

Re: Civic mileage?

If you pay attention to the car and do the recommended maintineance, the engine should last about 200,000 miles at least. If you want your car to last then try looking to buy the car with the least power options, the electrical parts tend to wear out before the engine does (espically power windows).

Re: Civic mileage?

my buddy Matt has a 212,xxx mile 94 EJ1 with the original engine, tranny and clutch. He boosted it this summer to see if we could kill it, but even at 200whp, it held together. It is now back to stock and running like a champ still. After seeing that, i'm rather confident in Honda engines...i'm not as worried about my GSR blowing up now....lol

Re: Civic mileage?

I've seen Civics mistreaded and make it passed 210k ODO. Unfortunately GM or Ford failed to put the effort into the design and quality control to make a car that good. Now too many Americans are loosing their jobs because some fat cats did things half assed for years and it's the workers getting screwed. Rant over...
