02 civic shop/mechanic problems

Two weeks ago I took my wifes civic to one of the local shops in town to have the timing belt, water pump, and tensioner kit replaced according to the maintenance book and they screwed it up. They called me two days later(the day it was supposed to be done) and told me that they got it back together and that it jumped time and bent some valves( there was no compression in the #4 valve). I was told that the head needed to be sent to a machine shop to have the valves looked at and to find out if anything else was wrong with the rest of the valves. The machine shop would re-seat the valves when they got the new ones from Honda. I was told by the shop(I requested as well)that They were going to use only "new Honda parts".
The machine shops were closed the week after Christmas and my car was delayed another week. The shop got the head back and began to put the head back on the block. they got as far as the intake manifold when they discovered that the Head gasket set did not contain certain intake manifold gaskets. They ordered them and the car has been another week out because they got the wrong ones and had to wait for the right ones.
I am sorry for the long story but I just wanted to put my experience out there in hopes that someone can help me find info on what my rights are and how I am to know that they truly did use Genuine Honda parts. I bought the car because I wanted to have a car that would last a long time, now I am unsure whether it still will. (What else could have been damaged?) Should I offer to pay for the parts(timing belt, water pump, tensioner kit) and nothing else?. It has been very inconvenient to only have my 90 Integra for over two weeks now having to drive my wife to work and take her and the two kids where ever we go.

The only thing you should be obligated to pay, is the original work you had done. The Timing belt, water pump, tensioner, coolant, and the labor. Everything else should be covered by the shop.

If they are a shady shop, they will pressure you to pay for it all. Hopefully you have the original quote, so you can verify there are no additional charges.

As for the OEM parts question, ask for verification. Dealer receipts, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I am sure they won't have me pay for the additional work. they did pay for our rental car so that we could still take our trip to Portland to visit family. I am just fed up with the time it has taken and feel like there should be compensation made for the time that I did not have a car. I understand the right thing to do is to pay for the work originally quoted but it has been very inconveniant to not have that car for a week and a half.
