97 gt 3800 intake manifold gasket problems
I was looking for a list of parts needed for replacing the lower intake manifold gasket and who would have the best prices for these parts.

Re: 97 gt 3800 intake manifold gasket problems
Your 97 GT's problem is most likely the plenum itself, not just the gasket. Dorman makes a kit that has everything you need to do the job, part #615-180, and it sells for $125-$160 depending on your area. It's an improved design that addresses the design flaw of the OEM part (too thin around the EGR stove pipe passage).

Re: 97 gt 3800 intake manifold gasket problems
IMO anyone that has the 97 - 98 models with SII 3800 should do the LIM gaskets too. Do the job right. I've seen LIM gaskets in '97 models and it is not pretty. GM now has the new aluminum LIM gasket set part #89017816. <-- This is the new gasket just released around May 2006.
You can reuse the old UIM and LIM bolts. They are not torque to yield. Clean off old threadlocker and use new threadlocker. But as always it is a good idea to use new parts including bolts.

Re: 97 gt 3800 intake manifold gasket problems
Definitely do both while you have it apart. I replaced my plenum but really it was still in good shape at 308,000 miles. I have seen pics of some that were really bad though.
