91 t-bird problems, help

I just had my '91 Ford Thunderbird checked out for a "check engine" light that comes on after the engine warms up then stays on. They told me that, among other problems, that the oxygen sensor [bank 2] is not switching for either lean or rich. I asked them where this sensor was located so I could do the job myself (16 year old vehicle and all) and they refused to tell me because they where not doing the work. I read on-line that the problem might be a dirty connector. They suggested that the connector may just need cleaning. OK, where would this connector be?

Also, as if this isn't enough, does anyone know where the EGR (?) is located? The mechanic said that the vacuum hose is collapsing near the EGR position sensor.

And the last thing is the Fuel Pump circuit is open from battery to the ECA. What is the ECA and what would I need to do to correct the open circuit problem?

I found the O2 sensors, finally, I'm gioing to try to clean the connectors and see if that works. Now I need to know how to fix the vacume problem. Where do I look for the vacume hose that is the problem? Or maybe the EGR position sensor is the problem. Where do I look for this sensor? The Fuel Pump circuit is stuck open, is there anything I can or should do correct it?

Not sure of EGR location on a V6 but it might be near the firewall (rear of engine) on the passenger side. I'd check all of the vacuum hoses to be sure they aren't cracked or brittle due to the age of the car. Do you mean the fuel pump is not working? Again, I'm not sure about a '91 but there might be an inertia switch in the trunk behind the panel that covers the drivers side wheel well. There is a red button that might have to be pressed in. This switch shuts off the fuel pump if you get hit in an accident.

No, the fuel pump seams to be working fine. I took the t-bird into a mechanic to check the check engine light and the inspection revealed that part of the problem was that the "Fuel pump circuit open battery to ECA." He would not elaborate or give suggestions on how to fix because, he wasn't performing the job. J..k O..

I don't have a schematic for a '91 so you'll have to find one. See my post in the Tech help thread at the top of the main page to see where to find factory manuals or try asking for a Mitchell electrical manual at your library for your year car. On a '97 the feed wire to the fuel pump inertia switch also goes to the ECM so this wire or connection may be bad (at the ECM). Do yourself a favor and never go back to the place you had the car tested. The mechanic is a complete a--hole for not giving you any information. You can take your car to Autozone or many other auto supply stores and have the computer codes read for free.

Thanks for the advice. I never knew that Autozone can and will read the codes for free. Also, I'll go to the library today and see what I can find.
