Question z31 stereo problems

well i just bought a brand spankin new aftermarket deck for my Z, but there is an issue

when i turn the volume up to a certain level, the speakers start to crack and become very staticky, the sound quality is just terrible and its not the speakers, i have hooked up many other speakers and they all sound the same

i had an older cassete player hooked up in it and it worked just fine, i have tried grounding it to many different places, checked all the wiring, and i am currently out of ideas, im not too educated in the car stereo area so any help is appreciated

thank you

Re: z31 stereo problems

noise filter on the alternator perhaps... and if you haven't replaced the speaker wires already, you should do so, as the stuff in there is probably 20 years old and not in the greatest condition...

Re: z31 stereo problems

it does it even if car is off so i dont really think alternator is an option, and the alternator i just installed has a "supressor" on it (idk what its called lol) but even hooking the deck up directly to speakers with the wires coming out of the deck it still does it

Re: z31 stereo problems

i'd return the deck then, it sounds like it's an issue with the deck itself.

Re: z31 stereo problems

yes, its the deck more than likely. back when i installed car audio, a customer brought in an amp that did the same thing and it took me all day to figure out why it was doing it. it was some off-brand amp...dont really remember the name.
