1999 Lumina LTZ Brakes
Replaced the rear brakes last night (Fronts this weekend). Anyway, replaced the rotors, rebuilt calipers and new pads. It all works fine but I noticed on the passenger side, the parking brake cable had a spring I had to retract a bit to connect it to the spring loaded lever. On the driver side was the same cable with no spring. The spring compressed may about 2 to 3 inches long. Anyway, it appeared it ws never on the cable and everything works just fine. Any comments on that or is that supposed to be this way?
Thanks! Corndog |

Re: 1999 Lumina LTZ Brakes
I think the spring helps to retract the parking brake mechanism back to its original position. Just make sure it isn't sticking, you may be alright.

Thanks. Thats what I thought. I can't imagine how it would get off of there. It's very heavy spring and tightly wrapped around the cable. One thing of note. There is a plastic sleeve on the driver side with no spring and no plastic coating or sleeve on the passenger with the spring. No problems. First time it waqs ever off as I am the original owner. Oh well. Thanks again |
