what to do

Hey all,

I'm in abit of a pinch and i need some help.

since october i have been working as a trainee mechanic for an apprenticeship. Now i've always wanted to be a mechanic but there are some days whre its just crap and some days where i say to my self"i'm a mechanic".

but the thing is that the pay is shit! i get a set pay not per hour, im currently getting $220 per week and that's 9 hours a day(1 hour lunch so really 8hours of work) sometimes upto even 10 1/2 hours a day but i don't get paid overtime.

me and my brother have planned a holiday around June to go to Japan for 10 day's. Now thats gonna cost abit and i really want to go, not to mention this will be my first ever ovrseas trip. But i may not be able to go because of money issues.(phone bills and petrol)

My brother works at a bank and i have asked him how much i'd be getting if i worked there, he told me 900+ fortnightly. That kind of pay will easily pay for my trip, phone bills, petrol and anything that may require some money befor the trip.

i really want that job but there is nothing available, but his mate from another team is looking for workers but he hasn't got back to my brother.

another thing is my family ie. coussins, relatives are always like "ohh you can fix my car now..hahahaha....we have a mechanic in the family now". not to mention my grandma shes always wanted me to become a mechanic, so haow am i going to tell them? let alone my parents.

i only have till monday next week to find out what im going to do.(quit mechanics and go for the banking job or stay) so please AF members help me with your knowledge

BIG thanks in advance ..Bryan..

Re: what to do

You're on an apprentice wage.

Apprentices get paid fuck all.

Finish your apprenticeship.

Re: what to do

There's money down the track, but you have to stick with it and work hard. I worked 4+ years to get to decent money.

That said, it's your life. Don't let other people run it for you.

Re: what to do

Do what you like.

Do you really want to go 9-5 to a bank everyday sit in a shirt and tie and deal with annoying people who give you shit because you're their biatch? I don't thats why I drive a truck for a living. If you really like working on cars than stick with it for now, its shit pay for being in training, that'll change if you work hard at it. Bottom line like OZ said, its your life, do what you want man.
