Places to look are front and rear intake gaskets. Heater core and heater hoses wherethey go into engine. Water pump and water pump weap hole and rad hoses and also rad. Look on top side of engine then craw underside and look up. Also check freeze plugs. On hard to find leaks run a pressure test cold and warm and hot. Also on real hard to find leaks they make a dye you can put in coolant and put a special light on it to find leak. And make sure no coolant is in the engine oil. Good Luck and let us know how it goes. MT

Re: 99 jimmy coolant problems
Try running a coolant pressure test to find the leak, if you don't have a pressure tester you can get one on loan from autozone. It connect's to the top of the radiator and you apply pressure to the system and it should be apparent where your leak is.

Re: 99 jimmy coolant problems
Lower intake where it meets the block is very common and near the heads so fill it up, run it and carefully look with a good light and you will probably see the leak. Hope its your waterpump, but....

Also watch rad a pin hole will sometime blow coolant back on engine. As said a pressure tester would be next step. Wash off engine with water and let it dry and then put pressure on rad. Always check cold and warm and hot. If it does not show up with pressure on it. Then go for the coolant dye test. Good luck MT

Re: 99 jimmy coolant problems
After driving mine until it was fully warmed up, I put a big enough piece of cardboard to catch anything off the motor under the car to catch the drips and help determine the location of the leaks.

Re: 99 jimmy coolant problems
Check the intake gaskets along the top where they meet the cylinder heads. Probably be hard to see with all the crap in the way, but use a bright flash light and try to get a good look. The intake manifold gaskets are known to go. Mine was leaking at the front and the antifreeze was running along where the intake and head meet, and running to the back of the motor and dripping down along the transmission. I noticed this while driving home from work one night and could smell antifreeze and noticed some puffs of white smoke coming out from under the truck where the antifreeze was dripping on the exhaust.

Re: 99 jimmy coolant problems
If you can avoid it, stay away from stop leak. It can plug more then the hole you want it to.

Re: 99 jimmy coolant problems
Hello, not sure if you checked your water pump out, mine just went. It was leaking fluid from the weap whole, which is a sign of a dead water pump. 36$ at my local parts store and about 2 hours labor. Just thought I would mention it because its an easy and cheap fix..........
good luck |
