sound system for 1990 1500 chevy

so i have a 1990 1500 chevy pickup, and needless to say...the stock am/fm radio isn't really cutting it. but i also have no history with car audio, and have not a clue where to start. my guess would be to get a head unit, but i dont even know where to put it, it doesn't seem like the spaces available are big enough. anyway, just tell me where to start...on a fairly cheap budget, and how to get things sounding just a smidge better.

well, the cheaper means the faster i can get it....but i guess in realistic terms my budget is somewhat more then i stated. i guess in all i wouldn't want to spend more then $1000 all together.

tear out your seats, pull off your plastic pillar covers and see whats behind them. maybe you can mount a few mid-bass speakers in there.

get a cover to cover the bed of the truck and put a bunch of speakers in there. haha

you dont have much room to work with, which is gay. hmmm

Re: sound system for 1990 1500 chevy

Theres enough in a full size try a mini, and multiple speakers in one location can create horrible imaging.

HU-between 150-300 for a decent to good one
FRONT SPEAKERS- between 100-200-for really good coaxials or a good set of components
10"-12" SUB-anywhere from 100-200 for a decent to great one
AMPS-1-2channel amp for speakers between 60-120
1-2/mono amp for subs 60-120
1-4channel to run it all instead of 2 amps 60-200 for a really good one.

SO it can comes in at less than 1000

If the heater and the radio are one unit then you need an under the dash mount kit.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

If its like this then yes but you will need either a double din HU or a HU install kit that allows a single din Hu to be put in.
