l95 tracker 1.6 liter ow compression in number 3 cylinder

I was told my compression in my number 3 cylinder is low, I have good compression in the other 3. Is this a difficult job to determine if it is a valve or ring? The car does not smoke and the problem just came on all at once. It is in nice shape and I don't want to let it go yet. If anyone has any ideas I would greatly apreciate your help. I have 155 psi in 1,2,4 cylinders 100psi in #3. Engine Idles rough like it has a miss also. I also smell fuel

Is there an easy way to check this? Is tis a difficult head to remove for an average do it yourself guy?

Check your injector for that cylinder. You say you smell a lot of fuel, the injector may possibly be bad.

I checkd for fuel leaks and there are none, the smell of fuel has passed. I just have the rough idle.

check: plugs wires, cap, rotor bug, and coil. chec vacuum leaks ( you can spray carb cleaner on lines vents and intake) the motor will cut out or high rev depending on the leak. also timing and MAP sensor can cause this.

i have parts for sale:

p.s. there is only i injectror in a 95 tracker.

Re: l95 tracker 1.6 liter ow compression in number 3 cylinder

Sorry, you have a burned exhaust valve. Crank it up and put a dollar bill over the end of the ehaust pipe. The exhaust should puff the dollar away except for the burned valve cylinder, which will suck the bill inward.
You can also disconnect the coil wire so it won't start up, then crank it over and listen for 3 distinct cranking sounds and one that's a little higher. The higher pitch sound is caused by the burned valve cylinder.
A shop will charge about $700 to repair it.

Thats good to know.. I've alway put a little oil into the cylinder thought to be bad and check to see if the compression rises after that. If it does it's bad rings if not its bad exhaust valve.
