rims smoke and are burning hot???

Alright, I have a 1989 Honda Accord DX here at my house, and after you drive it, the lug nuts and the rim are burning hot... When u spray water on them steam starts to come up??? What could this be??? Why is it doing that?

Yes your wheels should get hot that's normal. And when you spray water on hot objects it should steam. Heat up a frying pan and spray water on it it will do the same thing.

Do you drive hard? When was the last time you got an alignment?

I dont know the last time I got an alignment because I just purchased the car on Saturday...

To me it seems like its hot because the brakes squeak and I think the metal could be rubbing up against each other... But I just dont understand why the lug nuts would be hot also...???

Because everything is connected together. If the brakes get hot they radiate heat which everything around it gets hot (wheels, tires, suspension arms, lugs, hubs). Basic physics...

Get an alignment done and let us know. Squeaking brakes is really nothing as long as there is lots of brake pads. Most companies install harder compound brake pads since they last longer, but they also squeak more.

i still think you got problem with brakes. get your brake system inspected, not just brake pads, every thing.

Ok need more info to tell you what might be going on, 1st how long do you drive before it gets hot, 2nd are both wheel the same temp or very close to the same temp.

drive around the block taking it easy see if your brakes get hot that quick they should get no more than warn in a couple miles of driving. if they get hot, or only one of them gets hot than you my have stuck caliper.

pull you wheels and look at the thicknes of the pads make sure that they are even (both pads equal thicknes on both sides of the rotors) and check both sides of the car also make sure they are even pads from side to side.

Not sure what an alignment has to do with brakes but it will no make you brakes run hot.

Yea, tonight I was thinking about taking the tires off and checking the brake pads. But if it was that how difficult would it be to change the brake pads?

What would I need to do to change them?

rotors probly only in the 20 range each but on you car i just remebered that you may have pressed on rotors and if you do it will be very expensive to get them changed out. if they are press on then you will just have to hang pads util you cansave money to do it right,

I used to own 89 LXi and rotors were $45 each at PepBoys.

BTW, when you take brakes apart, make sure that pins move freely and have grease on them. i'm talking about pins that connect brake caliper to mounting bracket.
