I just got a yamaha xj600 seca and i need to put oil it in. I was wonderinf if anybody knows the best oil to put in it???

OK I'll bite. Can't go wrong with Amsoil 20W-50 motorcycle specific...unless it's really cold where you are, then the 10W-40 might be a better choice.

Lotta people find Shell Rotella 15W-40 to be an excellent cycle oil...it's actually blended for fleet diesel service, but seems to agree well with wet clutches and air cooling, and is certainly cheap enough...

I have a 94 Seca II, and I use Amsoil motorcycle oil. Seems to work well enough.

didn't we decide that for wet clutches virgin olive oil was the best and for older motors put banana skins in first followed by mince meat.......

all the above suggestions are good ones (except the olive oil, banna skins and mince meat... funny stuff Aussie). The best suuggestion I can make is DO NOT use any high mileage, or SJ or higher rated new car oils, as they have too many additives that do not play well with motorcycle engines and transmissions. Try to find SH or lower rated dino oil if you don't want to spend the cash for the motorcycle-specific synthetics.

Buy a cheap, readily available dino oil of the appropriate weight listed in your owners manual and change it often. I believe this to be a better approach than running an expensive synthetic for a longer duration. And if you're buying expensive name brand synthetics and changing them often you're just throwing money away. My personal method for my R6 is running 10-40 Honda motorcycle oil (since its cheap and easily accessible) and changing the oil and filter every 3000 miles. You can't go wrong with this approach.
