Intake question

I've noticed in another post that thread lock was recommended for the intake bolts. I used thread sealer. (That's what the 1996 GM W-body service manual suggested). Any disadvantages to this? Do I need to worry about anything in the future? BTW I used fel-pro gaskets, and I have a 96, with a 3100.

Re: Intake question

I think you are correct in using sealer instead of thread lock. I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with the bolts being in contact with a fluid, the coolant, in this instance. I know there are some people who use RTV instead of thread lock.

Re: Intake question

The intake gasket on this engine is fully encircling, and the bolts go into blind holes, so therefore never contact coolant. Thread-lock is the correct thing to use, as there is no need for thread sealant. If you're using RTV as thead sealant, you should be ok, as it will function as an adhesive to keep the bolts from working loose. If you used white teflon "thread dope", the bolts would and probably will work their way loose again.

Re: Intake question

I used thread "dope." I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. What do you think of re-torqueing them after an oil change or 2? They're not TOO difficult to access.....
