got a motercycle need a favor

well i just got a 1992 honda (dont hate) cbr 600 f2. i picked it up for 500 bucks from my neighbor. it wasnt running but for about 200 bucks (battery, oil, spark plugs, air filter, carb cleaner, and about 5 hours of cleaning carbs and the gas tank and putting it all together) but its running and feels great but my neighbor wants to make sure its not stolen of anything before he signs the title over because when he bought it the guy was kinda shady but he has the title and the bike looks all original so it probably isnt. so i need someone to do a carfax if they have the unlimited subscription thing. let me know and i will post the vin or email me at [email protected]
thanks-Tom

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

nope, im waiting for him to put the title in his name, he is always at work so when he gets a day off hes gonna go up to the tax collectors to get the title streightened out but he is kinda scared so i was gonna do a check to make sure it isnt stolen so he wont be hesitent going to the tax collector with the title and bill of sale, which he should have no problem doing since he has the bill of sale.

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

I have no loyalty to any american manufacturer of motorcycles, had a '95 Katana 600, and almost bought a Ninja ZX10, or a Honda Interceptor until some idiot got nailed in front of my office (on a Harley coming out of a bar.. go figure.. he didn't quite deserve it, but was REALLY not too far from asking for it.)

Anyone that wants to tell you import buikes suck has obviously never ridden one or owned one. Better quality and less expensive.

Good job, keep it verticle, and make sure that sumich ain't stolen. AND BUY A DAMNED HELMET... and wear it too.

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

Make sure the brakes work well, and look extra close to make sure it doesnt have any damage to if from and previous lay-overs.

GET A HELMET!!! Find one that doesnt cut off too much of your vision, or make it where you cant hear whats coming. Head injuries are number one cause of death due to motorcycle wrecks.

EDIT: Call a tag agency, and give them the vin and tag number if still equipped. They can tell you what you want to know. Just say " im thinking of buying a motorcycle, and want to check to make sure its not stolen".

Dont give any names that way if its hot you and your friend can push it out to the street, and call the police on it for recovery of a stolen vehcle. That or push it out into the middle of a 4 way intersection and walk away from it.

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

i got a helmet and jacket picked out and i have been driving it around my neighborhood. its fun as hell and way fast. it has a header and 2 brothers muffler and a racing chain and i just got a k and n air filter since the one on there is wayyyyy dirty. but this thing just takes off. its intense. 6 speed, sual front brakes, single rear, clutch works fine but will need to be replaced in a few months, needs new tires in like 3 weeks, and the windscreen is cracked cuz it was dropped once but not hard, just got a little scrached up and bent a headlight mount but its all back nice. i will post some pics tomorrow though. and today i signed up for the motercycle safety course since i have to take it to get the license since im under 21. it sux cuz its a 250 dollar class. ouch, and the helmet im getting is cheap, its a z1r strike helmet and i know how they say chep helmets arent good but i just readl a 25ish page magazine article testing helmets in the june 2005 motorcyclist mag and this helmet did the best in real life tests. it created the least gs on the head by far in all tests. actually a cheaper one did better but had a bad chin design that will mess up your brain stem in a bad crash so it wasnt reccomended. but yeah i should be legally driving it in about a week.

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

The $250 for the safety course is well worth the cost. Get motorcycle gloves too, if you do get in a wreck, you don't want to have someone else wipe your ass for 5 months because you didn't wear gloves.

June 05 magazine... hmmm... I'd get a more recent one. You're right more expensive doesn't necessarily mean better, but it tends to.

Imported Buicks?

I'm not going to get started on the motorcycle safety issue (aside from, take the course) since another thread recently started a debate between those who know and those that have yet to know, but just be careful. My first and only true "accident" involved 2 bikes that slammed into my '78 Buick Regal. Let's just say the results weren't pretty.

Re: got a motercycle need a favor

Glad to hear you bought a bike, keep it rubber side down. I also ride, and started out on a honda ... now i've upgraded to a bigger american bike for touring, I live in ohio & have taken trips around quite a bit of america on my motorcycle, futhest i've been from home was glacier national park in montana. #1 thing to remember, no one else is on the road to protect you while your on a bike, you have to be ready to react to anything others do, you protect you against the idiots, everytime you get on it you put your life on the line, ride safe, ride smart, and if your attention gets to drifting off STOP. Believe me when riding some long hours to get somewhere on a trip it gets boring, once I almost fell asleep riding 80 mph going down the highway (my eyes were closed, I was almost asleep), lets just say it was an experience I will not soon forget. #2 replace tires before they wear out, they are the only thing between you and the road. #3 always carry a rain suit with you if your going over 15 mins from home.

In ohio the state offers a safety course for like $25, go thru a dealer and the same course is like $325. Look into the state course ... might save you some green.

The best words I can give you are "look where you want the bike to go & it will follow" trust me on this. Oh and keep it on two wheels, most people get hurt showing off! Never trust that someone else in a car will do the sensible thing ... I once had a car share my lane with me going around a curve in the hills ... lets just say I thought they might have enough sense to give me room, thats when I learned you have to watch them as much as you watch the road, and not take anything for granted! (like IQ or common sense)

ride safe

No. But I do find it moronic that in the pic "someone" is riding it without a stitch of safety gear on at all. That is the best way to end up as road pizza.
