help--ignition timing, i think
90' Tercel 3E (carb). Just did valve stem seals... removed timing belt, cams, distributor, etc... then put it back together. I am almost positive that I have set the crank to cam timing correctly before reinstalling the belt...
Fired her up and she runs rough so I use a timing light connected to No 1 plug to check ignition timing. I am surprised to see that at idle its about 25 degrees BTDC ! ! ! I am assuming that it is way off right, manual says 3 degrees? I turned the distributor to try to advance it but I can even get close to 10 BTDC. When I rev the engine I see the timing advance so I believe that the vacuumn advance is working correctly... Did I install distributor into cam incorrectly? Is there another way to adjust distributor so I can get the ignition timing to line up correctly?
