Re: Capacitor Question

I wouldnt get any, waste of money and time. Big 3 deep cycle battery and a HO alternator are more worth the cash.

Don't ever look at cars as just imports or domestics. Just because a car is made in a certain country doesn't mean that it is anything like another car from that country. An example of this is Mitsubishi reliability, just because they are Japanese doesn't mean that they are as reliable as a Honda or Toyota.

Re: Capacitor Question

to put it in a nutshell, caps do nothing for SPL and might help get that last 2-3% of performance out of a really good sound quality system.

Re: Capacitor Question

i also think that the cap makes it so that the guage wire can handle more.

theory behid it is this: when i was looking for a power wire kite, the differents between the kits is one with a cap and one without but the one with a cap could handle more watts.

Re: Capacitor Question

No man the guage wire can never have the current draw change, it cant carry more than its rated for. Im sure paul can enlighten us on why the one with the cap had a higher power rating. Im guessing its the main reason the cap is used because it can store the extra energy.

Re: Capacitor Question

But that doesnt change how much current can run through a wire. So if you get some fast paced bass and the capcant recharge fast enough, and your putting the max current through the wire then that wire can catch on fire. These are under the perfect conditions so it rare that it would happen.

And yeah i know what a cap is for, its still a waste of money.

Re: Capacitor Question

that's right .... a cap cannot change the current capacity of a wire. Hard to tell what goes thru the minds of the marketing departments ...... unfortunately, most of you guys know more about real stereos than they do.

If caps were so awesome, then why did ALL of the heavy hitters in the SPL lanes drop them after just one season in the mid 90's, when caps were really popular. The problem is, caps don't hold enough energy to help with SPL .... just enough energy to help with a large 20 millisecond burst - dynamic headroom for an SQ system.
