Engine dies when coming to stop

My 91 was having trouble with pcv valve. I was getting oil back up in the air filter. This problem has been fixed but seems to have caused another. Now when I kick it out of gear coming to a stop sometimes the engine dies. I see the oil light come on just before it dies. It always starts right back up. What can I do to fix this issue? It did not die before I replaced the pcv valve.

Why do you kick it out of gear when coming to a stop? Or do you have a manual tranny and when you step on the clutch, is that what you mean by kicking it out of gear? On to your problem, I would put a full container of a name brand fuel injector cleaner in a full tank of gas and hope that fixes the stalling problem.

First, check your oil. That light should only come on if the level is low.
Usually when the engine dies like that I have found it to be a vacuum problem.

Do you have an acceleration problem? Try to speed up quickly and see if it is sluggish at all.

I agree with checking for a vacuum leak. You may have knocked a hose loose.

The oil pressure light coming on is just probably the result of very low rpm just before snuffing out.

Re: Engine dies when coming to stop

I just changed the oil so it's not that. I will check the hoses. It seems to be an intermittant problem. It only happens every once and a while. The car accelerates well (for a 1.9 4 cylinder).

Mine was right in the very front. I just replaced it and let the hoses hang down so the oil would drain out of them. Sorry not much help for you.

If the idle control valve goes bad it will stall at every stop. It will gradually get worse until you replace it. 1 minute fix if you can find a cheep used one.
