Chevy LeMans Blue?

Getting ready to get started on this '69 Camaro build, but I can't find LeMans Blue anywhere. It's too old for Dupli-color to make it I guess... does Testors have an actual LeMans Blue, or is there a Tamiya that's close?

Re: Chevy LeMans Blue?

Best thing to do is what I did. Order it from Model Car World Automotive finishes. Here's a pic I converted off a slide of my 1968 Z/28 in LeMans Blue.

Re: Chevy LeMans Blue?

Don't suppose you have any left?

I suppose I'll keep that in mind, I was kind of hoping to find a local source though. Is it enamel or lacquer?

EDIT: Oops, that settles that--they won't ship outside the USA. Being that it's explosive paint and all.

Thanks anyway though.

Re: Chevy LeMans Blue?

If you have the paint code, search your local area for a paint shop that will mix it for you. If you're not sure how to find one that will mix it, call a couple of local auto repair/spray shops and I am sure one of them will be willing to help you if you ask nicely and explain what you need it for.

Ya, I already have a guy at NAPA that can mix spraybombs for me. Unfortunately they're $30+ for one little can. Not sure the customer's willing to pay that.

It's such a popular colour for GMs, I'm astounded I can't find it anywhere in a spraybomb.

Re: Chevy LeMans Blue?

Have you given the customer the option of paying for it and keeping whatever is left for touchups to their real car? (assuming they still own the car)

Re: Chevy LeMans Blue?

heh good point, I should ask...

EDIT: Actually, can't do that either, because he's in America, and I can't mail paint!

Oh well. I'll just give him the option of either paying for the custom mix, or I'll find something close I guess. Just can't believe such a popular colour isn't available...

You should try http://www.paintscratch.com
Always wanted to order the same color as you from them (for the same base car too).
I tried to see if they ship outside the U.S. but couldn't find information on the page. I live in Hawai'i, but never found out if they would ship outside the continental U.S. Email them.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal... Then again someone in Hong Kong wrote a testimonial about it, so maybe the guy at Model Car World is wrong...

Try PMing 99civichic. Her and her friend Will(his SN escapes me right now) are pretty heavy GM fanatics. They could possibly know of a corresponding spray for ya.

Re: Chevy LeMans Blue?

Tamiya TS-54 is a bit light to my eye for an exact match, but it is a pretty darn close match to a friend's Vette that he says is in original LeMans Blue. I've used it on a couple Camaro models of friends old rides and they thought it looked right from their memories too. Take it for what it's worth... - Mark

Re: Chevy LeMans Blue?

Thanks Mark, I'll take a look at it. I'm sure if it's close it'll do. Is it a metallic?

Re: Chevy LeMans Blue?

Tamiya TS-54 Light Metallic Blue. It has a nice even metallic to it, not a metal flake by any means.
Originally formulated to match the medium/light metallic blue (my description) on the Mercedes CLK DTM Original Tiele model. The front bumper is that color, otherwise it is a mostly white car with a realistic/artistic rendering of the engine in a "cut away" hood and line art of auto parts all over it... - Mark
